Forget Banners And Pop-Ups – Future ads on the Net will be smarter

Source – Star InTech, Tuesday 29 May 2007

Advertisements on the Web will be smarter and even more targeted in the near future. Microsoft Corp CEO, Steve Balmer believes there will be no more “dumb adverts” such as banners and pop-ups. Instead, advertisements on the Web will target each individual user with what he or she is interested in, and that would be even better than what is experienced now.

Currently, advertisements on the Web are tied in to Internet search technologies; whenever a user searches for a particular subject or topic, advertisements on a similar or related service or product are displayed on the results page.

These online advertisements can also be made to take into account a user’s geographical location, but future ones may even be also able to recognise a user’s sex, age group, like and dislikes, or his or her spending pattern.
